DISCUSSIONS IN MOSCOW
Another Meeting Requested WESTERN ENVOYS AWAIT REPLY (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON. Aug. 22. The three Western envoys, after meeting at the British Embassy in Moscow, asked Mr Molotov for another interview. A reply is expected to-day. “It is believed that the Western envoys in Moscow will not meet Mr Stalin before August 23,” says Reuter’s diplomatic correspondent. “It is also believed that Moscow reports are correct in saying that the instructions which the three envoys have received on tactics for the next Kremlin meeting are not completely in line. However, it is understood that the difference of view between the French Government and the other two Governments relates only to the methods of conducting the next interview and not to fundamental questions of policy.” Reuter’s diplomatic correspondent commented on Friday: “It looks as if the stage is now set for a meeting which will decide whether a fourPower meeting is possible. It is anticipated that if the three weeks’ talks end in failure, the Western Powers will issue a joint communique setting out the efforts made to reach a settlement.”
Reuter’s correspondent in Berlin said that the Russian Military Governon of Germany (Marshal Sokolovsky), who had been to Moscow for talks at the Kremlin, would hold a conference with his top political advisers at Karlshorst as soon as a communique was issued on the outcome of the four-Power Moscow talks. Marshal Sokolovsky would outline plans for Germany in view of the new situation.
