LABOUR MINISTER’S POSITION

THREAT OF EXPULSION FROM PARTY (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 1A p.m.) SYDNEY, August 22. The New South Wales Minister of Housing (Mr Clive Evatt) is threatened with expulsion from the Labour Party if he remains president of the Australian Russian Society after next Friday. The full executive of the Labour Party will be asked next week to declare the society “an auxiliary of the Communist Party.” This recommendation is containea in a report prepared by party officials last Thursday. Its adoption, which is considered certain, would place an immediate party ban on membership of the society. Mr Evatt has denied that the society is Communist-controlled.
