Sir Peter Buck, Director of the Bishop Museum, Honolulu, has been awarded an honorary doctorate of literature by the University of Hawaii in recognition of his distinguished record as an ethnologist, his contribution to the knowledge of mankind, and his zeal as an interpreter in Polynesia, according to advice received in Wellington.—(P.A.) Mr R. C. Addison was elected chairman of the meeting of the advisory committee of the Barnardo Helpers’ League held in Wellington recently in place of the retiring chairman (the Rev. P. Gladstone Hughes). A welcome was extended to the Bishop of Wellington (Bishop Owen), who has joined the committee in place of Bishop Holland.
