NATIONAL MEETING CONCLUDES

RACING

Arabian Night Wins

Lincoln

HEATHCOTE HANDICAP TO BALLINAGH

Arabian Night and his rider, L. C. Brown, were rewarded for their gallant effort in the Grand National Steeplechase when they had a popular win in the Lincoln Steeplechase at Riccarton on Saturday. Arabian Night was followed home by the Beaufort Steeplechase winner, Bravura, with Roman Son battling on into third place. The race was spoiled when High Morale crashed and broke his neck at the last fence, when in second place.

Boolamskee, second in the Grand National Hurdles, gave a sound winning performance in the Sydenham Hurdles. In a thrilling finish, his stamina gained him a nose victory over Pimlico, and his owner-rider, Mr E. R. Curtis, received an ovation as he returned to scale.

The favourite. Ballinagh won the Heathcote Handicap decisively. He came through on the rails in the straight, and over the last furlong finished much too strongly for the pacemaker, Julius Caesar, with Hormuz getting up to beat Riverview for third.

In a particularly good day’s racing, no fewer seven favourites won. Conditions were again good, and there was a large attendance. The track was in splendid order, and provided fast going.

The totalisator turnover for the day was £134,320 10s, compared with £139,961 last year, a decrease of £5640 10s. The total for the meeting was £449,946, compared with £447,473 last year, an increase of £2473. In the Lincoln Steeplechase Arabian Night was backed down to surprisingly short odds for a steeplechaser, and his win dividend was considerably less than even money. However, he justified his supporters’ confidence and won decisively Bravura ran right up to his Beaufort Steeplechase form and deserved second place. High Morale looked certain to finish in the money when he crashed at the last fence, though he was probably tiring a -little at the time. Up till then he had given a good display. Except that he tot round safely and battled on at the nisb there was not much merit in Roman Son’s third. At the start Roman Son and Arabian Night were a little slow to move and Lunaria and Eleanor Star led over Cutts’s from Whiphand, which eased right up to jump the fence and ran off at the next fence, the sod wall, at the nine furlongs. At the kennels double Lunaria out jumped JSleanor Star and soon led him by sb£ lengths. Abbey Lu, Bravura, High Morale, Roman Son and Debater being next, with Spanish Main, Bronze Night, and Arabian Night at the rear. At the carriage paddock brush Bronze Night’s rider lost his irons <nd Bronze Night pulled up. At the stand double Eleanor Star was on terms with Lunaria again, Arabian Night still being at the rear just ahead of Spanish Main. At Cutts’s the second time Lunaria again outjumped Eleanor Star, but the latter went to the front after clearing the sod wall and was closely followed by Lunaria and High Morale, with Bravura, Arabian Night, Roman Son and Abbey Lu next, and Debater and Spainish Main tailing off. Hifh Morale went to the front at the Kennels double, where Arabian Night had joined Eleanor Star in second place, Bravura and Lunaria being next, with a gap to Roman Sor; and Abbey Lu. Round the top High Morale continued to be closely followed by Arabian Night, Eleanor Star and Bravura. Lunaria having dropped back. Arabian Night headed off High Morale entering the straight and they were closely followed to the last fence by Bravura with Eleanor Star dropping back and Roman Son doing best of the . rest. After High Morale crashed, Bravura made a game attempt to catch 'Arabian Night, but the latter stayed on too solidly and won by three lengths. Roman Son was another 12 lengths back with a bigger gap to Eleanor Star. Then followed Lunaria and Abbey Lu, with Spanish Main and Debater a long way back. Boolamskee’s Good Effort Boolamskee rdded to hlfi good record over hurdles at Riccarton when he mastered his 11-6 in the Sydenham Hurdles. He had none the best of the running and ft was his superior stamina that carried the day. The runner-up, Pimlico, improved a good deal on his running in the Grand National Hurdles and Sphere ran a useful race for third. From the start. Glad Fox went to the front and ?t the end of four furlongs was four lengths clear of Bay Robe and Turf Topic with Pedantic and Sphere and Young Bob next, then came Pimlico and Diamond King, With Boolamskee, Nanook, and Skywriter at the rear. Turf Topic dropped back several places going round to the back straight and at the six furlongs Pedantic’ moved up to join Glad Fox, the pair being six lengths clear of Bay Robe and Young Bob, with Diamond King and Pimlico next, and Boolamskee pushing up on the fence just behind them. At the five furlongs Boolamskee and PimliCo jumped into second place and followed Pedantic and Glad Fox round the top. Glad Fox Was weakening at the straight entrance, and Pimlico moved up smartly and led oyer the last fence from Pedantic and Boolamskee with Sphere, making gtotind next ahead of Glad Fox and Young Bob. In the run in Pimlico looked like holding on but Boolamskee finished resolutely under a hard ride and in a great struggle over the last 50 yards, won by a nose. Sphere was four lengths away third, with three lengths to Young Bob. Then followed Pedantic, Diamond King, Turf Topic, Glad Fox. Skywriter. Nanook. and Bay Robe. Ralliftarh’u SnHA irintch

Balllnagh’s Solid Finish In the Islington Handicap Julius Caesar endeavoured to lead all the way, but Ballinagh was much too solid for him over the last furlong and won much more decisively than his length margin suggested. Siegtone, Pageantry, Bruie. Revolte, and Aganev were all slow at the start, Julius Caesar being the first to show out from Lord Theio and Hormuz. At the end of three furlongs Julius Caesar was joined by Wonder Boy and they were followed by Kirkella, Clyde Bridge, Lord Theio, Riverview, and Dark Arrow, with Merry Robin. Hormuz, Lord Elgin. Thornbridge, and Ballinagh in the next bunch. At the five furlongs Clyde Bridge joined Wonder Boy and Julius Caesar in the lead, and these three led into the straight from Kirkella, Thornbridge, Dark Arrow and Ballinagh. At the furlong Julius Caesar had Wonder Boy’s measure, and was being challenged by Ballinagh, with Riverview, Thornbridge, Kirkella, and Banshee all prominent. Though Julius Caesar battled on well, Ballinagh soon put the issue beyond doubt and beat him by a length. Another two lengths away Hormuz got up to beat Riverview for third. Banshee and Kirkella were right up with Riverview. There was a gap to Wonder Boy, which was followed by Graeme, Thornbridge, and Dark Arrow. Results:—
