LEESTON TOWN BOARD
STREET SIGNS TO BE INSTALLED
A decision to make a start with the erection of street name signs was made at a recent meeting of the Leeston Town Board, after the clerk had submitted estimates of the cost. In cases where the signs were to be placed on telephone or power poles application for permission was to be sought from the Post and Telegraph Department and the Springs-Ellesmere Power Board.
All the work authorised at the board’s previous meeting has been done, reported the works committee, in addition to which further planting
of ornamental trees in the streets had been carried out. The trees were fine specimens, said the chairman (Mr V. G. Mason) who complimented the works committee on the state of the gardens in Memorial Square. The board decided to delegate to the health inspector its authority under the Housing Improvement Act, 1945, and Regulations, 1947. A grant of £2 2s was made to the Overseas Air Terminal Committee toward expenses incurred in furthering the claims of Harewood.
