The weather forecast for Canterbury, Issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: a ridge of high pressure covers New Zealand, and there is a depression over the north-west. The forecast to 5 p.m. is for moderate southerly winds, becoming variable. Weather fair to fine. Temperatures cold. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate easterly winds predominating. Weather fair to fine. Temperatures cool. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was mainly fine with sunshine, passing cloud, and a cold southerly wind. The maximum temperature was 48.2 degrees. At midnight the sky W’as almost cvercast and there was a very light south-west wind. The temperature was 35.8 degrees. The barometer, at 30.13 Gin (1C20.3 millibars) was rising unsteadily.
