MR F. W. JOHNSTON

TRIBUTES IN SUPREME COURT - - A large attendance of the legal profession paid tributes to the late Mr F. W. Johnston, one of the city’s oldest and best known legal practitioners, whose death occurred on Monday, in the Supreme Court yesterday morning. The president of the Canterbury District Law Society (Mr L. J. H. Hensley) said that Mr Johnston’s legal career had covered 56 years, and he had served in Canterbury for the whole of that period. His Honour Mr Justice Fleming paid tribute to Mr Johnston’s fine qualities, and expressed sympathy with his widow and family. Mr Raymond Ferner. S.M., adjourned the Magistrate’s Court for -20 minutes as a tribute to the memory of Mr Johnston.
