UNESCO MOTION ON WOMEN’S RIGHTS
N.Z. ABSTAINED FROM VOTING
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. August 18. The New Zealand delegate to the meeting of the human rights committee of UNESCO did not vote , against the resolution ensuring women, equal rights with men in employment and remuneration, leisure, and professional training, said the Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) in reply to Mr E. P. Aderman (Opposition, New Plymouth) in the House of Representatives to-day. A press report to the .contrary was inaccurate. New Zealand had consistently upheld the rights of women to equality with men. However, until the Internationa] Labour Organisation had completed its studies on the matter, and in view of many unsatisfactory features of the recent UNESCO resolution, the New Zealand representative, while reaffirming support for the principle of equal rights, abstained from voting on the resolution, Mr Fraser said.
