MISS WOOTTON IN NEW YORK

(Rec. 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 4. Miss Mary Wootton to-day visited the new international airport at Idlewild as the guest of the city. She was the guest to-night of the EnglishSpeaking Union, the St. George Society, and the New Zealand Society at a supper party. She was entertained last night at a reception by the New Zealand Con-sul-General ’ (Mr T. O. W. Brebner) and Mrs Brebner, and the British Consul-General (Sir Francis EVans) and Lady Evans. To-morrow she will meet the Mayor of New York (Mr William O’Dwyer), and visit the United Nations and the Stock Exchange. She will leave on Fridav for Westport, Connecticut, and will give the Mayor a message from the Mayor of Westport. New Zealand. Miss Wootton yesterday planted a wattle shrub in the Anzac Garden on top of the British Empire Building in the Rockefeller Centre to symbolise friendship between the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. Miss Wootton explained that it was impossible to plant a kowhai, New Zealand’s national flower, because it would not grow in the New York climate.
