EDUCATION BOARD NURSERY

A final effort to obtain an annual grant for the maintenance of its nursery at St. Martins will be made by the Canterbury Education Board. Yesterday it received a letter from the Canterbury School Committees’ Association pledging all support for the retention of the nursery. The chairman (Mr C. S. Thompson) said that he would be sorry to see the nursery close alter so many thousands of trees and shrubs had been distributed to schools, but the Minister of Education (Mr T. H. McCombs) considered that such stock could be provided more cheaply by other means. Mr K. Kippenberger said more attention should be paid to the nursery’s educational value than to matters of pounds, shillings, and pence. To this the Minister would reply that the place for such education was in the school ground, Mr Thompson said,
