FUTURE OF HAREWOOD AERODROME
PROTEST AGAINST DELAY IN EXTENSION
Concern at the delay in the decision to Inaugurate an air service between Australia and the South Island is expressed In a telegram which has been sent to the Minister in charge of Civil Aviation (Mr F, Jones) by the Canterbury Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association. The delay was retarding business development seriously and placing the South Island commercial community at a serious disadvantage, both in time and cost in trans-Tasman air travel, stated the telegram. Commercial people were vitally Interested in the efforts of the Harewood Overseas Air Terminal Committee to have Harewood aerodrome developed to international standards and deplored the action of the Government in failing to meet their needs, said the president of the association (Mr L. E. Gould). "The association believes that authority should be given to class Harewodd as an overseas terminal, and in view of the evidence already presented in Harewood’s favour there appears to be no valid reason why this should not be done immediately,” ho said.
