BALLET RAMBERT
CHRISTCHURCH SEASON OPENS THIS EVENING Christchurch ballet lovers during the next three weeks will have before them the celebrated Ballet Rambert, which broke playing and attendance records in Sydney and Melbourne recently. Included in the programmes are the classic ballets “Les Sylphides and “Swan Lake.” but the other ballets are new and have been developed by the Ballet Rambert. After its successful Australian season the ballet played for four weeks in both Auckland and Wellington, and yesterday arrived in Christchurch after two weeks in Dunedin. Most of the 60 members of the ballet are English, but eight Australian dancers have been added. Since it has been in this country two New Zealand girls have joined the company, and one will return to England with it. The company’s principal male dancer is Walter Gore and Belinda Wright is the principal female dancer. The ballet is under the direction of its founder. Madame Marie Rambert. The Christchurch season will open this evening.
