MILITARY SERVICE IN AUSTRALIA
COMPULSION UNLIKELY (Rec. 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 16, It was unlikely that the Australian Government would introduce compulsory military service, said the Minister of Defence (Mr J. J. Dedman) last night. He was commenting on the likelihood of compulsory military training being introduced in New Zealand. Mr Dedman added that Australia’s present defence policy must be given an opportunity to prove itself. If it were unsuccessful, the position would, of course, be re-examined.
