PARLIAMENTARY DAY
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 15. The announcement of a settlement of the Mountpark dispute, which was regarded as a triumph for the Minister of Labour (Mr A. McLagan), was the main event in Parliament to-day The Address-in-Reply debate was continued. The Minister of Finance (Mr W. Nash) spoke this evening, discussing import control, and especially the importation of tractors. The surprise of the night was the speech of Mr J. N. Massey (Opposition, Franklin), who attacked witn unexpected deftness the Government’s financial policy, especially as it affected farmers. His speech was regarded as one of the best in the debate. In the afternoon the House heard from the Minister of Transport (Mr F. Hackett) details of a new transport bill, which gives the possibility, of heavier penalties for drivers found intoxicated in charge of cars. The Address-in-Reply debate is expected to finish to-morrow. Legislation discussed by a meeting of the Government caucus to-night will provide work for the House for the next few days. The time within which the Constitutional Reform Committee (considering the future of the Upper House) and the Film Inquiry Committee appointed last year are to report to the House of Representatives was extended by the House to-day to September 30. The committees were originally required to report within 28 days of the opening of the present session.
