CORSO HELP FOR CHINA
MISSION HOSPITALS BENEFIT
“CORSO has, at present, particular •connexion with the Church,” said the Canterbury chairman, of the organisation (the Rev. A. M. Richards), addressing tile Christchurch Presbytery yesterday.’ “Of CORSO’s help for China, 80 per cent, goes to the mission hospitals. The reason is threefold.
“First, they are completely reliable in a country where Government officials are often suspected of graft or favouritism. Second, there are still hardly any other hospitals, except mission hospitals, in China, Other developing medical services rely on the mission institutions to train their staffs —staff training is the main job of CORSO. Third, eight years of war smashed up China’s hospitals so completely that, without help from outside, they could not begin again at all. “All resources they receive from CORSO, or anywhere else, they pool and allot to the most needy institutions through a committee which represents both Protestant and Roman Catholic bodies,” Mr Richards concluded.
