Mr H. L. de la Perrelle, Second Clerk Assistant to the Legislative Council since 1935, has been appointed Clerk Assistant and Deputy-Clerk of Parliament.—(P.A.)

The president (Mr G. Hartnell) was elected as the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s delegate to attend a meeting called by the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr E. H. Andrews) to discuss the claims of the South Island for more liberal recognition by the Government. Mr D. L. Grant, assistant-district electrical engineer at Napier, has been appointed district electrical engineer of the State Hydro-Electric Department in Auckland in succession to Mr L. F. Withers, who has been appointed assistant-general manager of the department. Mr Grant joined the public service in 1918 and the electrical branch of the Public Works Department in 1919 as a cadet. After extensive field services he became distribution engineer at Oamaru and later resident electrical engineer in Southland. Two executive members of the Canterbury School Committees’ Association were congratulated last evening on their appointment to controlling educational bodies—Mr F. H. Dephoff to the Canterbury Education Board, and Mr C. D. W. L. Sheppard to the Christchurch Technical Colleges Board.

Mr Bill Bain, of Christchurch, female impersonator in the Kiwi concert party, has returned to New Zealand for a short holiday. He will not rejoin the party in Melbourne, but will go to England to seek theatre employment there.
