TWO MEN ATTACKED IN BED
EARLY MORNING ASSAULT (P.A.) HAMILTON, July 14. Two age pensioners who have been sharing a room off the back porch in a boarding-house in Hamilton were assaulted by two unknown intruders in the early hours of this morning and severely beaten up. Both were admitted to the Waikato Hospital, and one is in a serious condition. They are Mr Francis Henry Connor, aged 69, who is in a serious condition, suffering from severe head injuries, and Mr George Walmsley, aged 75, who is not so seriously injured. The assault occurred soon after 1.15 a.m., and apparently both men were sleeping when the assailants entered the room. Mr Walmsley is a onelegged man, but both men apparently put up a good defence, as the noise of the assault was heard by other residents of the boarding-house and people across the road. When eventually people went to make inquiries they were too late to stop the two assailants from running away.
