BRITAIN. AND U.S. SAID TO AGREE
“Britain and the United States are reliably reported to have agreed that fighting in Palestine must cease and that any nation not attempting to extend the truce mujt bear the consequences,” says Reuter’s corresppndent at Lake Success. ‘Talks among various Security Council delegations have revealed a large measure of agreement that It is time for the Council to take sterner measures than merely calling for a ceasefire.”
“The Arabs’ decision on war or peace in Palestine is expected when the Arab League meets in Lebanon to-day,” says the Amman correspondent of the British United Press. ‘‘King Abdullah of Transjordan, on British advice, is believed to be working for at least provisional acceptance of Count Bernadotte’s proposal for a 10-day truce. King Abdullah’s representatives are expected to demand a showdown with the Egyptian supporters of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, who do not want a truce.”
