OFFICIAL FORECASTS "The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON. July 13. The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: a vigorous depression over the central Tasman Sea is approaching the South Island. Forecast: north-easterlies on coast, moderate northerlies elsewhere. Rain in the western ranges, but weather elsewhere cloudy and cool. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Fresh north-east winds. Weather dull and unsettled, with rain. Some heavy falls likely. Temperatures cool. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER After a frost of 9.7 degrees the weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine, though overcast in the afternoon, and the maximum temperature was 50 degrees. There Was a north-east breeze. The sky was overcast at midnight and there was a light east wind. The temperature was 47.3 degrees. The barometer at 29.90 inches (1012.2 millibars) was falling unsteadily.
