TRAFFIC CONTROL
Sir,—Surely it is about time’that the City Council made an effort to improve traffic control, which seems to be getting worse. Would it not be advisable to obtain outside advice from one of the larger cities in Australia or England, or failing that, to send one of the younger inspectors to observe large town methods?—Yours, etc., . MODERN. July 4, 1948. [lf the correspondent would supply details of any particular defects in traffic control, the department would look into the matter, said the chairman of the Christchurch City Council traffic committee (Mr C. D. W. L. Sheppard), when this letter was referred to him. The Transport Commissioner (Mr G. L. Laurenson)/had said that the system was one of the best in New Zealand, said Mr Sheppard.]
