“URGENT ACTION” REQUESTED
WAIMATE RESOLUTION From Our Own Reporter WAIMATE, July 2. “Believing that continuation of the waterfront hold-up at Auckland is likely to cause considerable loss to potato-growers in this district, that it will adversely affect the quantity of potatoes grown in future, and will detrimentally affect the whole economy of the community, the Waimate Businessmen’s Association strongly urges the Government to take urgent action to end the dispute.” This motion was carried at the monthly meeting of the* association to-day. Introducing the subject, Mr J- Blackgrove said that action was most necessary. Any losses caused the growers would be reflected detrimentally in the prosperity of the town, he said. Mr Blackgrove’s statement was supported by other speakers, and it was decided to send copies of the resolution to the Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser), the Minister of Labour (Mr A. McLagan), and the member of Parliament for the district (Mr D. C. Kidd).
