NATIONAL PARTY PRESIDENT

MR W. J. SIM NOT

OPPOSED

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, July 2. The president of the New Zealand National Party (Mr W. J. Sim) wil] not be opposed in elections of the party when he stands again for the position at the annual Dominion conference in Dunedin on Monday. Mr Sim has been nominated by all five divisions of the party. The 350 delegates expected will bring to the conference nominations for eight vice-presidents and the names will be submitted to the gathering. The party’s constitution provides for a vice-president from each of the five divisions, a woman vice-president from each of the North and South Islands, and one representing the Maori race It is not expected that any ballots will be necessary for the vice-presidencies. The conference will also elect a Dominion council representative of the five divisions and including members of the Parliamentary section of the party. Like the Labour Party, the National Party has this year broken tradition by holding its annual conference in a centre other than Wellington. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr S. G. Holland) will give an address in the Town Hall on Monday night at a party rally. He will return to Wellington by air on Tuesday.
