U.S. SHIPBUILDING EXPANSION
“ TO SUPPORT BIGGER
ARMY AND NAVY” (Rec. 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 8. The Appropriations Committee of the United States House of Representatives authorised the Maritime Commission to launch a merchant shipbuilding programme costing 104,000.000 dollars to support a bigger Army and Navy and to restore America’s shipbuilding industry to a level where it can be expanded in an emergency. The committee also extended the Maritime Commission’s authority to spend 84,000,000 dollars of ship construction money previously appropriated,. but not spent.
