WOMEN’S SECTION OF R.S.A.
NEWS FOR WOMEN T
ANNUAL MEETING The work of the women’s section of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association wag reviewed yesterday at the section’s annual meeting at which the president (Mrs H. A. Bishop) presided. It was reported that, during the year, members had raised £4O 6s from a bridge party and the money had been given to the Returned Services’ Association Food for Britain fund. Through the sale of the section’s cookery book £ 168 10s had been raised. This money had been paid to the Disabled Servicemen’s Centre. Members had acted as wardrobe mistresses for the pantomime run during the year by the R.S.A. for food for Britain. From this pantomime £1057 had been raised.
Mr H. E. Batchelor, president of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association. thanked members for the assistance which they had given the association in various ways during the year. The women’s section, women members of the Returned Services’ Association, and the association itself should co-operate and combine more in their social gatherings, he thought. “Most of these gatherings are a success, but they could be much better,” he added. A report on hospital visiting of servicemen was presented by Miss M. G. Brown, and both Mrs Bishop and Mr Batchelor spoke appreciatively of her work. Miss Brown has been doing this work for more than 30 years. During the afternoon songs were sung by Mrs Walter Ross. She was accompanied by Mrs H. Peters.
