SHIP DUE FROM LOS ANGELES
COMPANY’S VIEW OF SLOW TURN-ROUND
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 9. The Oceanic Steamship Company’s freighter Alameda is due at Auckland on Saturday with 1800 tons of general cargo from Los Angeles and about 1000 cases of citrus fruit from Suva. She will sail about Juqe 16 for Melbourne on her return to the Pacific Coast. The Alameda is one of the four freighters to. have omitted calls to New Zealand because of the slow turnround. The Auckland agents said today that the vessel was committed to the voyage before the company’s decision was cabled on May 8. Officials incline to the visw that the company’s freighters may make occasional calls at New Zealand and that the announcement was more of a warning that the service was likely to be spasmodic because of the slow turn-round here. The Sierra is scheduled to leave Los Angeles on June 15 for Melbourne direct.
