PRESBYTERIAN PLANS FOR CENTENNIAL
Although Christchurch was regarded as being mainly an Anglican community, he thought the Presbyterian Church should do something special for the centennial celebrations, said the Rev. D. Mackenzie at a meeting of the Presbytery of Christchurch yesterday. The clergy should make suggestions. . “We are a very strong minority,” he said.
The Rev. T. West said that at a group discussion recently someone pointed out that Presbyterian settlers were in Christchurch four years before the Anglicans, and that “it was strange the River Avon should be named, not after a river in England, but after a river in Scotland.” . This statement was received with ilaughter.
