LONG STOPWORK MEETING
WALLSEND MINE IDLE YESTERDAY ’ From Our Own Reporter
GREYMOUTH, June 9. Because of a prolonged stopwork meeting which the men held at the bath-house to discuss the application of the “isolated trucking” clause as it applied to certain places in the mine, the Wallsend State mine was idle today. Certain proposals, it is understood, were made to the men concerning the application of the clause, and the mine is expected to resume production to-morrow.
This morning’s meeting was so prolonged that on its completion the men considered it was too late to start work, and returned home. The isolated trucking clause is ap- ' plied to places where men at the face are required to do their own trucking, and it entajlg certain extra payments. LIVERPOOL WORKERS RESUME From Our Own Reporter GREYMOUTH, June 9. Idle for half a day on Tuesday and again to-day, the Liverpool State mine at Rewanui resumed operations with a back shift to-day. Heating in the No. 2 Morgan east area was the reason for the stoppage. Stoppings were immediately put in, and after an inspection this morning by the Inspector of Mines and representatives of the union and management, the decision was made that the mine was safe for work from this afternoon.
