THE MOUNTPARK DISPUTE
TRIBUNAL NOT YET APPOINTED WHEAT SHIP STILL IDLE (P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 8. Although the Government’s mten* tion to set up a tribunal to investigate the first Mountpark dispute (in March! was announced by the Minister of Labour (Mr A. McLagan) on Friday, no move in this direction has yet been made. The Mountpark, with a cargo > of Australian wheat, is still idle at I Auckland and this morning five gangs of waterside workers, 80 men, were dismissed under penalty for refusing to her batches. . The proposal to set up a tribunal, headed by a Judge of the Supreme Court, was accepted grudgingly by tne New Zealand Waterside Employers Association and conditionally by the New Zealand Waterside Union. The association held that tne move was “unwise and \ unnecessary because the Waterfront Industry Commission was legally constituted as a « tribunal. The union’s acceptance has provision that cranes are used to lift the Mountpark’s hatches so that the vessel can be worked now.
