MINOR FIRES IN WEEK-END

Calls to minor fires were answered by the Christchurch Fire Brigade during the week-end. Hot ash thrown into a cardboard box caused a small fire in a flat at St. Elmo Flats, 48 Worcester street, occupied by Mr George Henry Phillips Miller. The brigade, called at 1.15 p.m. on Saturday, put out the fire after slight damage had been done to the room in which it occurred. A rubbish fire broke out on Satui> day evening at the back of St. Faith’s Anglican Church in Hawke street, New Brighton, and was extinguished by the brigade shortly before midnight. The brigade was again called to New Brighton yesterday afternoon, when a grass fire on the Esplanade was put out before any damage was done.
