RECOGNITION OF ASSOCIATION BY UNESCO Advice of the recognition by the Minister of Education (Mr T. H. McCombs) of the Art Galleries Museums Association of New Zealand as a co-operative body of the National Commission for UNBSCO was received at the first annual meeting of the association in Wellington on Tuesday. The Minister’s recognition was made on the recommendation of the commission. This recognition entailed two conditions, explained Dr. R. A. Falla, Director or the Dominion Museum, who was New Zealand’s delegate to the conference of UNESCO last year. The association was entitled to nominate one of its members as a candidate for the National Commission. The appointment of members of the commission was made by the Minister of Education. The association also had the responsibility of advising on matters of a specialised nature concerning art galleries and museums in New Zealand, he said. Dr. Falla was nominated by the association as a candidate for the commission. Officers were elected as follows: president, Dr. Falla; vice-presidents, Dr. W. R. B. Oliver (Canterbury Museum), Mr J. Barr (Auckland Public Library); council, Colonel C. B. Brereton, Dr. J. Marwick, Dr. G. Archey, Mr R. Duff, Mr L. D. Bestall, Dr. H. D. Skinner; secretary, Dr. J. T. Salmon; treasurer, Mr W r . J. Phillipps; honorary auditor, Mr B. Hosking.
