NEW TRADES COUNCIL SECRETARY
ELECTION AT GREYMOUTH From Our Own Reporter GREYMOUTH, April 30. Mr T. Pratt, of Greymouth, one of the leading figures of the West Coast Trades and Labour Council, lost his seat on the council this week. He was heavily defeated at an election by members of the Westland branch of the New Zealand Engineers’ and Related Trades Industrial Union of Workers to decide on the union’s delegate on the council. ✓ A member of the council for almost 10 years since his arrival at Greymouth from Australia, Mr Pratt has been secretary since 1943. He was one of the leading figures in the recent beer boycott which was sponsored by the Trades Council. About 23 attended the meeting, and the voting was said to have been 17-6 in favour of Mr Pratt’s opponent, Mr P. Wafer.
Mr Wafer is an employee of the Grey Electric Power Board, and is almost unknown in trade union circles. He has had no experience on the council.
