“FOREIGN TO OUR OUTLOOK”
COMMENT AT FUNCTION FOR AUSTRALIANS (P.A.) TIMARU, April' 30. “There is liable to be a lot of hot words about this,” commented the district vice-president for Canterbury of the Returned Services’ Association (Mr C. Miln). referring at a social evening in -Timaru in honour of three of the Australian Anzac Day delegation, to a statement by the Australian Minister of Immigration (Mr A A Calwell) that a Maori returned soldier. married to an Australian girl, would not be allowed to settig peunanently in Australia. Mr Miln asked the Australian guests whether they would take up the matter with the Returned Servicemen’s League when they returned home. The guests approved the suggestion. “To us this represents an injustice. ' said Mr Miln. “It is foreign to our outlook on life. I bring the matter up to-night in the hope that our Australian friends may do something about it as a gesture of goodwill.”
