AID FOR BRITAIN

Sir,—May I respectfully suggest to the Aid for Britain Committee that more attention should be given to the shocking food wastage in this country. To-day, after listening to the speakers at the midday meeting in Cathedral square, within sound of their voices I saw at the top of a large rubbish bin about a dozen slices or what seemed quite fresh bread and butter and a whole pie. As everybody with open eyes knows, the same kind of thing seems to be happening everywhere and all the time. I venture the opinion that if only half this waste could be prevented there would be enough food to save the lives of thousands in faminestricken countries.— Youks, etc., GEORGE INGRAM. April 7, 1948.
