“AGENTS AS CULPABLE AS PRINCIPALS ”
(PJk.) WELLINGTON. March 20. figt is the practice for these men to >lead they are only agents, but an agent s just as culpable as his principal, said T’r H. J. Thompson, S.M . in the Magistrate's .Court, imposing a fine of £75 on William George White, aged 60, a labourer, who pleaded guilty to a charge of carrying on the business of a bookmaker. Counsel for accused said that he naa been operating as an agent only, on a commission basis.
FINE OF £65 AT HOKITIKA
HOKITIKA, March 31. Alexander Robert Broome> a carpenter, aged 39, pleaded guilty to the charge of carrying on the business of a bookmaker, in the Magistrate’s Court at Hokitika on Saturday. He was convicted and fined £0» by Messrs E. W. Heenan and J. B. Hood, Justices of the Peace, who were on tna Broome, it was stated, had two previous convictions for the same offence.
