ROYALTY AT OPERA
The Queen occupied the Royal box at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, for a performance of “Tristan and Isolde” recently. With her were Princess« Elizabeth, the Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Margaret, and the Duchess of Kent. Mrs Douglas, wife of the United States Ambassador, was in the box with the Royal Family. Her daughter, Miss Sharman Douglas, had -a seat in the stalls.
The Queen wore white, with a sable cape. Princess Elizabeth was in a white embroidered evening dress, with an ermine coat. Princess Margaret chose pink with an ermine coat, and the Duchess of Kent wore black with a fox fur coat.
It was the first time the Queen had attended an opera there since the Covent Garden Opera Trust began its performances in 1946.
Every seat in the house was occupied.
