SIR FRANCIS DAVIES DEAD

LONDON. March 18. The death has occurred of General Sir Francis Davies K.C.8.. K.C.M.G., who was responsible, with FieldMarshal Lord Bird wood, for the withdrawal of the Allied forces from Gallipoli during the Great War. He was 84.

Sir Francis Davies served with the forces in South Africa, Europe, and Britain. He was military secretary at the War Office from 1918 to 1919. and was G.0.C.-in-C.. Scottish Command, from 1919 to 1923. From 1923 to 1926 he was Lieutenant of the Tower of London, and until 1926 was A.D.C. General to the King.
