The need for further accommodation for training of students was emphasised at a recent meeting of the council of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association, v at which the president (Mrs A. K. Hadfield) presided. The appointment of Mr John Oakley as art instructor to the students was announced, and the resignation of Miss M. Fisher from her position as assistant at the Richmond Kindergarten was accepted with regret. The executive of the association later entertained Mrs Colvin, of the Wellington Kindergarten Council, at lunch.

Dehydrofreezing, a new method for preserving foods, has passed its first extensive test in America. The process, still in the experimental stage and not yet in. commercial use, combines the advantages •of two older methods, dehydrating and quick freezing. The first step in the process is to remove much of tne moisture from the fresh food and to save weight and bulk in packing. Then the food is frozen to retain its fresh quality. The moisture removed from the fruits and vegetables in dehydrofreezing is restored toy the water used in cooking them. The vegetables and fruit tested had been in storage for six and 12 months and had kept their colour, texture, and flavour well, it is reported. The appointment of a woman federal minister to investigate the problems of young mothers is being urged in Australia by the president of the Perth Women’s Service Guild. Women should not be expected to rear families under the conditions which exist to-day, she claims. “Time and time again young couples have been urged to have children to increase the national' birthrate, but very little support has eVer been given,” the president comments. She asks for support not only from the Government but from the people. A sympathetic view of the problems comfronting young mothers is essential, she says.
