CITY PARKS AND RESERVES
ANNUAL INSPECTION
The annual inspection of parks and reserves in the Christchurch City Council’s area was made yesterday by members of the council. The inspection was led by the superintendent or parks and reserves, Mr M. J. Barnett The work of converting the Lyttelton street rubbish dumb into a large park containing a playing area for children, tennis courts, bowling and croquet lawns, football, hockey and cricket grounds, and work on the extension of the Redcliffs reserve were among the projects inspected by the party. It was hoped that the draining ana levelling of the polo ground and an adjacent area at Matsons corner, South Hagley Park, which would be used by the university for its midweek sports activities, would be commenced shortly, said Mr Barnett. The fields should be-in use again next year, he said. Plans for the redesign and planting of the reserve garden and the old -native plant section at the Botanic Gardens and the proposed site for the Eveleyn Cousins memorial were explained by Mr Barnett. The site of a new park in Clouston street. St. Martins. and of proposed new tennis courts at Linwood Park were visited in the afternoon. The improving of existing parks and reserves and the acquiring of new areas will be discussed by the reserves committee at its meeting next Monday, and recommendations will W made to the council at its next meeting.
