WAIKATO HYDRO STRIKE
WORKERS SUPPORTED
DECISION OF AUCKLAND TRADES COUNCIL (P.A.) AUCKLAND, March 18. By unanimous vote the Auckland Trades Council decided at a meeting to-night to urge affiliated unions to support the appeal from the New Zealand Workers’ Union for financial assistance for Mangakino members, who are involved in the Waikato hydro strike, in accordance with the decision of the national executive of the Federation of Labour. , The president (Mr A. Drennan) and the secretary (Mr W. Ashton) said the meeting by an overwhelming majority strongly condemned as .a disruptive action the publishing by Mr J. Freeman, vice-president of the New Zealand Timber Workers’ Union, of an appeal to all unionists to oust Communists. Mr Drennan said a vote of censure was passed. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 18. A resolution supporting the action of the New Zealand Workers’ Union in the Mangakino hydro strike was passed at the annual meeting last night of the Wellington Drivers’ Union. The meeting, which was addressed by the vice-president of the New Zealand Federation of Labour (Mr W. B. Richards), also decided to approach the New Zealand Transport Workers’ Federation asking it to investigate the position and to seek support for the workers’ Union from all affiliations of the Transport Federation
