TRACK WORK AT ADDINGTON

Driven by J. Bryce, jun., who drove him to win the Farewell Handicap from Globe Direct at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on September 27, Pre-Eminence attracted attention to his prospects in the Canterbury. Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington to-morrow when, paced over the first mile and a half by Golden Shadow, he covered two miles at Addington yesterdav morning in 4min 36 3-ssec, sprinting his rest four furlongs in his best style in Imin 1 4-ssec. An. aged gelding by Great Bingen from a good producer in Waitaki Girl, PreEminence looks particularly well, and he may soon win a race for Miss E. Scullion, for whom he is trained at Addington by J. Purdon.

Double Peter, the runner-up to Turco in the Consolation Pacers’ Race Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on February 21, impressed by the easy manner in which he covered the last half-mile of his trial in Imin 2 l-ssec. the last two furlongs in 30 4-ssec. A good pacer on heavy tracks, Double Peter should prove hard to beat if he strikes' conditions to suit him at the meeting.

Loyal Peter paced Turco and Desert Lad over a mile and a half in 3min 28 l-ssec, the last half-mile>in Imin 7 3-ssec.

After, covering a mile and a half at an< easy pace, Maori Home sprinted the last half-mile of his trial in Imin 4 l-ssec. A fit horse, Maori Home should race well in the J. H. Williams Handicap at Addington to-morrow.

Direct Heir, which was driven by F. Holmes, who trains him at Riccarton, was worked unhoppled over a mile and a half, his last half-mile taking Imin 7sec. Sure Money and Certainty (unhoppled) covered the last mile and a quarter of their trial in. 2min 55see, the last half in Imin Ssec. A likely improver. Sure Mqhey is a possibility in the Intermediate Handicap at Addington to-morrow. Good Work

Novelda, Aberhall, and South Wind all impressed when working over a mile and a half in 3min 24sec, the last half-mile in imin 4 4-ssec, the last quarter in 32sec, A four-year-old son of Dillon Hall and Southern Bond, South Wind is a smart pacer, and he may show up from the 24 yards mark in the New Zealand Pacing Stakes at Addington to-morrow. The Westport-trained Courageous trailed Novelda,- Aberhall. and South Wind all the way. Courageous did not appear to be going comfortably, and he was well back at the finish.

Pierre, whieh is trained at Yaldhurst by R. J. Berry, and Attack, which is trained at Springston by M. W. Dickie, worked over a mile and a half in 3min 35sec, the last half-mile in Imin 7 l-ssec. Two useful types, Pierre and Attack are engaged tn the New Zealand Pacing Stakes at Addington to-morrow. Grattan Drive, one of the favourites for the J. H. Williams Handicap at Addington to-morrow, was accompanied over a rfiile and a half by Jackie Guy in 3mln 33sec, the last half-mile in Imin 8 l-ssec.

The three-year-old filly Lady Mavourneen, covered the last half-mile of her trial in Imin 5 3-ssec. Hilda Scott and Lady Indiana sprinted the last half-mile of their work-out in Imin Bsec. The weather was fine and the track was In good order. Destroyed Mr D. Green's Battle Colours, which was engaged in the Flying Stakes at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting ciuo’s meeting at Addington this week, was destroyed after breaking a fetlock on his owner’s farm at Methven on Monday. A genuine performer. Battle Colours, which was foaled in 1936, raced well over all distances, eventually winning his way to New Zealand Cup company. When racing in the interests of F. Young, who trained him at Methven, Battle Colours showed his best form last season to win the National Handicap from Catalpa at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s National meeting and the Hannon Memorial Handicap from Turco at the Oamaru Trotting Club’s Labour Day meeting.

A half-brother to other winners in Warwick, and Limerick Pride, Battle Colours was by Wrack from Satin Queen, by Guy Parrish from Lady Locanda, by Brent Locanda from a mare by General Lyons.

Ineligible to Start After an inquiry into the behaviour of Northern Lass at the start of the Speedway Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s -meeting at Addington on Saturday, the stipendiary stewards declared Northern Lass to be ineligible to again at the meeting. Scratched ,
