STABILISATION OF WAGES AND COSTS
REQUEST BY PENSIONERS’ ASSOCIATION That urgent requests should be made to the Government to improve the standard of living qf beneficiaries by an adequate increase in pensions and by stabilisation of wages and the cost of goads, was a motion carried to-day at the annual conference of the New Zealand Pensioners’ Association in Timaru.
A special committee was set up to deal with the establishment of a Dominion funeral fund. Favourable comment was made on the excellent work being done in many centres through the rest room service. Officers elected were as follows: patron. Mr R. Gudsell (Christchurch); president, Mr W. D. Ayson (Wanganui) ; vice-presidents, Mrs McComish (Wellington), and Mr C. Donaldson (Christchurch); secretary, Mrs C. Shaw (Sumner); treasurer, Mr Stock (Oamaru); executive (Sodth Island members), Mesdames Page (Dunedin), Campbell (Oamaru), Dorn (Christchurch), Messrs James (Timaru), J. A. Donaldson (Ashburton), Thomas (Christchurch), (North Island members), Mesdames Mitchell (Eltham), Seward (Palmerston North), Messrs Collier (Whangarei), Meagher (Waihi), Sweetman (Hamilton), McKinlay (Wangahui).
