BRITISH EXHIBITION IN 1951

ORGANISING COUNCIL TO BEGIN WORK (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, March 14. Undeterred bv economic reports and other discouraging omens, the Government is going ahead with its plans for the Festival of Britain to be held in 1951 on the anniversary of the great exhibition of 1851. It has appointed Lord Ismay, Mr Churchill’s cnjef of staff during the war, to be chairman of the organising council, and Mr Gerald Barry, formerly editor of the London ‘‘News Chronicle,” to be its direc-tor-general. The organising council will begin its work next month in the eighteenth century building in John Adam Street, off the Strand, where the 1851 exhibition was conceived.
