VICEREGAL (P.A.) DUNEDIN, March 15. This morning the Governor-General (Sir Bernard FreybCrg) and Lady Freyberg received members of the Fijian touring cricket team. Later her Excellency paid visits to the Caversham, St. Kilda and Kelsey free kindergartens. This afternoon his Excellency was present at the cricket match Fiji v. Otago. Later his Excellency paid an informal visit to the Dunedin Returned Services’ Association. This evening their Excellencies were present at a performance by the Otago Film Society.
The Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) will arrive in Christchurch to-day, and to-night will attend a meeting of the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee. Which will discuss recent events in the carpenters’ dispute. With Mr Fraser at the meeting in the Trades Hall will be the Minister of Labour (Mr A. McLagan). Mr Justice Fleming will leave Christchurch to-day for Dunedin, where he will preside at sittings of the Supreme Court while Mr JusticeKennedy is in Wellington for sittings of the Court of Appeal. Sir Clifford Paterson, research director of the British General Electric Company, Ltd., London, will arrive in Auckland on Thursday, and stay in New Zealand till April 13. Sir Cliffiord Paterson, who is a member of the advisory council of the British Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, will consult with the Scientific and Industrial Research Department staff in Wellington, and with the State Hydro-electric Department.— (P.A.)
Mr John Richard Woodward was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of th-? Supreme Court yesterday by Mr Justice Fleming, on the motion of Mr J. T. Watts, M.P.
Mr S. C. Andrews, of Christchurch, will preside at the annual conference of the New Zealand Federation of Master Photo-process Engravers, Stereotypers, and Electrotypers, which will be held at Timaru on March 17 and 18.
The nomination of Major-General H. K. Kippenberger for the office of president of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association will be made by the Rangiora branch of the association. This was decided by the executive of the branch at a meeting on Saturday evening.
