FINE PERFORMANCE AT ADDINGTON

Great Venture returned his supporters a double-figure dividend when, after giving a polished display of trotting, he won the Stewards’ Handicap, the main event for trotters, at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington on Saturday. Bancor, Castigate, Rerewaka, and Toushay all lost their chances when they failed to begin correctly, and when the field settled down Flying Scott was leading from Great Venture, Firewater, Sure Harvest, and Mine Host. Mine Host lost his chance when he broke twice in the early stages. With six furlongs to go. Flying Scott was followed by Great Venture, Firewater, Sure Harvest, Mistydale, Rerewaka, Castigate, and Aerial Scott. Flying Scott weakened with three furlongs to go. Great Venture taking the lead and carrying on to win with th<e greatest of ease from Aerial Scott, which beat Sure Harvest in a photo-finish for second place.

A five-year-old son of Lusty Volo and Belle Grattan, Great Venture has raced well this season to gain five wins and five minor placings for J. T. Taylor, who trains him at Templeton.
