MAN KILLED AT ROLLESTON Albert Craig, aged 42, single, a railway surfaceman, was killed by the south goods train as it entered Rolleston station about 9 o’clock last evening., Mr Craig, who lived in a railway hut near - the Rolleston station, was struck by the engine a few yards down the line from his hut, and was carried for some distance along the line. Struck by a petrol waggon beihg shunted by a locofiiotive in the Greyffibuth station yards this morning, a railwayjnafi, Robert Cowie, a widower, aged 52 ypats of age, of Greymouth, was killed instafitly. His body was severely mutilated. Mr Cowie was placing a motorjigger on the line almost in front of the oncoming which he evidently failed to see. The machifie was hurled to one side, but Mr Cowie was cadght underneath the railway waggon and dragged about two chains. Acting-inspector of permanent ways, Mr Cowie had resided in. the Grey district for many years. His wife died three years ago when he was living in the Rotomanu district, afifi He is stir; vived by a son, Rbbert (palnierstqfi) and a daughter, Miss Valinai Cowie (Greymouth). An inquest was opened at Greymouth this afternoon before the Coroner (Mr M. J. Fogarty). .After evidence of identification had been giveri by William Edward Buddy, resident engineer of the Railways Department at Greymouth, the inquest was adjourned sine die.
