WIDOW GRANTED AN ANNUITY
PROVISION FROM HUSBAND’S ESTATE A claim by Irene Mary Powell Watson, a widow, of Wellington, for increased provision from the estate of her husband. William Wallace Watson, jeweller, of Christchurch, was heard by Mr Justice Fleming in the Supreme Court yesterday. The testator, who died on August 3, 1947. left an estate valued at £3500, in property. Dr. A. L. Haslam appeared -for the plaintiff. Mr E. P. Wills for the Public Trustee, and Mr R. C. Saunders for Mrs Melva England, the residuary beneficiary. . Dr. Haslam submitted a draft order to which all counsel had agreed, providing for an annuity of £4 a week for the plaintiff until her death or remarriage and asked the Court to approve it. This order was in terms of an offer made to the plaintiff. His Honour an order in terms of the draft order submitted, subject <to amendments, concerning administration asked for by the Public Trustee. The annuity is in lieu of any benefit conferred on her by her husband’s will.
