Typhonic, an unlucky runner at the Kaikoura Trotting Club’s meeting on February 28, was expected to race well in the Waihora Park Trot at the Banks Peninsula Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday, but he lost his chance when, after beginning quickly, he struck trouble and went to a break. In J. Young’s Team
Bay Machine is a recent addition to J. Young’s team at Addington. An aged gelding by Auto Machine from Haeranga Pai, which left a classic winner in British Machine to the same sire. Bay Machine was educated and trained for his early races by the late F. J. Smith, for whom he showed outstanding form to gain two wins and a third placing in his five starts as a two-year-old in the 1942-43 season. Bay Machine paid his way with two wins and two minor placings as a three-year-old, but he subsequently lost form. After adding a third to his record in his first six starts in the 1944-45 season, he was transferred to A. Bryce’s team. Bay Machine was unplaced at his only other start for the season, and he was then transferred to I. Morrison to train at Epsom, but he failed to regain form and finished out of the money in his nine starts in the 1945-46 season.
Bay Machine was then acquired by Mr L. Mackie, who gave him to V. Mackie to train. Since then, Bay Machine has added another seven unplaced performances to his list.
Young has a good record with difficult horses and he may be able to persuade Bay Machine to reproduce the form he showed in the early part of his career. Broke Up
Norma’s Pride, a candidate for the New Zealand Trotting Stakes at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington on Saturday, began smoothly but lost her chance when she failed to trot solidly in the Claremont Handicap at the Timaru Trotting Club's meeting at Washdyke. A filly, Norma’s Pride, which is trained at Dunedin by G. E. Brown for Mr A. Quinn, is by Desmond’s Pride from a
winner in Norma Bingen, which took a record of 3min 17 l-ssec at the trotting gait. By Nelson Bingen, Norma Bingen is out of Norma Dillon, by Harold Dillon from a George M. Patchen mare. Useful Type
Noble Jack brought his record to one win, four seconds, and a fourth in his nine starts this season when he- followed Melton home in the second division of the Salisbury Handicap at the Timaru Trotting Club’s meeting at Washdyke on Saturday. One of W. K. Tatterson’s team at Rakaia, Noble Jack is a promising four-year-old gelding by a Nobleman colt from Filigree, which is by Jack Potts from Light Wings, the dam of Emulous and Lightning Lady. -
