TASMAN AIR SERVICE
SUGGESTED USE OF HAREWOOD
Should it be necessary to provide for a regular landplane service between Australia and New Zealand, the representations made by the South Island Overseas Air Terminal Committee concerning the use of Harewood will be given the fullest consideration. This reply was given to the committee by the Minister in charge of Civil Aviation (Mr F. Jones) after it had suggested that Harewood should be used for the transit of passengers and goods for the southern part of the Dominion, including Wellington, to relieve the congestion which had developed because of the temporary discontinuance of the Tasman flying-boat service. Mr Jones’s reply was included in a report by the chairman of the committee (Mr J. R. Dench) to the council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce last evening. Mr Jones said also that Tasman Empire Airways was making whatever arrangements it was able to to provide passages between Australia and New Zealand by air.
