AUCKLAND DISTRICT RESTRICTIONS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 25. Because children and teachers had been doing school work since early February, school terms and vacations would not be altered, said the Minister of Education (Mr T. H. McCombs) today. Mr McCombs said schools in the Central Auckland health district and in the northern part of the South Auckland health district would remain closed until Easter. The Health Department would take local action in other areas where cases occurred. Where children from areas under restriction are enrolled at schools in other parts of New Zealand, they should not leave their homes until they had obtained from the’ local medical officer of health a certificate stating that they were not contacts of any known case of poliomyelitis. Pupils of schools that were closed would continue with correspondence lessons. NEW POLIOMYELITIS CASE IN WAIKATO (P.A.) AUCKLAND. February 25. An additional positive case of infantile paralysis was diagnosed at the Waikato Hospital to-day. The patient was one admitted from Raglan as a suspected case two days before. No further cases were admitted to-day. An adult from Pukekohe, who was admitted to Auckland Hospital as a positive case on Tuesday, has been reclassified as suspected.
