SPECIAL PETROL LICENCES

ALLOWANCES FOR WORKERS Workers who have no means of public transport to their employment will receive special allowances of petrol. The District Oil Fuel Controller (Mr D. R. Thomson) announced arrangements yesterday. Where there were numbers of employees concerned, the employer or manager of each firm should apply for a blanket licence to • cover all, and authority would be given to issue chits to individuals, Mr Thomson said. ■Single employees would have to make separate applications, supported by certificates from their employers. Firms operating public transport services must show their operators’ licences when applying for petrol licences.

Officials asked yesterday that commercial operators should make their applications early to avoid any restriction of their services next week through late applications for special allowances. Offices will be open for an hour each evening for the convenience of businessmen—from 7.30 to 8.30 this evening and from 7 to 8 for the remainder of the week.
